Thornton Gym Club

A brief summary of the competition results for the past three years is listed below. This list is not comprehensive, but is a summary of the medals we have won so apologies to anybody who feels they should have been mentioned!

Our competition results in the past five years have, without doubt, been the best in the club's history. In summary we have won the Novice competition at 6/7, 10/11 and 12+ age groups. We have won the Intermediate competition at 12+ age group and have had a variety of medals at other competitions. Furthermore, we have entered the Advanced and Challenge Trophy competitions for the first time – securing a 4^th place in the former.

2007 has seen some excellent performances from our gymnasts in various Yorkshire competitions. Many have moved up a level this year - with more due to move up in 2008, when there should also be more gymnasts competing in external 4-piece competitions due to the introduction of a Level 7 competition - something which all the girls in our Level 1 competition at the Club Championships should be aiming for.

We hope that this can continue and the gymnasts can achieve good results in the future.

Georgia Hartley                           Bars 1st place

Georgia was 8th overall, Chloe Ing was 36th

Rosie Sharp was 22nd overall

Level 6 Team Competition

6th overall (though we only had four in the team, instead of five)

2006 was quite an eventful year for Katie Ormerod. In March, she passed her Comp 4 grade, finishing 5th in her group, but taking 2nd place on beam.

On 24 September, Katie competed in the Yorkshire Level 4 Voluntary Championships. Effectively, this was the Yorkshire Championships for the best 9-year-olds in the region.

After an excellent all-round performance by Katie, she achieved First place (jointly with a City of Leeds gymnast). Katie was 2nd on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam and 2nd on floor.

Not only was Katie crowned Yorkshire Champion, she went on to represent Yorkshire (and Thornton Gym Club!) in the British Level 4 Voluntary Championships. This is the British Championships for 9-year-olds and she competed against the best gymnasts in the Country.

This was the first time ever that Thornton Gym Club had a gymnast representing Yorkshire and competing in the British Championships. They were held on the weekend of 4/5 November 2006 at Guildford Spectrum in Surrey and Katie was placed 48th overall.

Then, to cap a terrific year, she was Thornton's Club Champion in December, following her third place in 2005.
